Kristen:

And we are recording.

D'Janai:

Hey everybody.

Kristen:

Hi, welcome back. Sorry

D'Janai:

She just burped.

Kristen:

I did it. He couldn't even hear it.

D'Janai:

I didn't, um, welcome back to quiet as it's kept.

Kristen:

The podcast

D'Janai:

It was a podcast. This is a true crime show. Mommy podcast. I'm DJ.

Kristen:

and I'm Christian.

D'Janai:

Hey, Kristen.

Kristen:

grow. All right. Intro done. All right.

D'Janai:

Nevermind.

Kristen:

that off the list.

D'Janai:

Okay. All right. Um, welcome back. Um, this week's episode is brought to you by the camera being off on zoom. Okay. Um, that's her clap and her ass because she's so excited that I fucking said that y'all, it's almost been a full year of being in a Panera bread. Like when are y'all gonna quit? Just, just stop. Because what difference does it make? Okay. If I am listening to this call and I'm sitting attentively at my desk, or if bitch I'm in the kitchen making, uh, uh, uh, cinnamon raisin bagel. Okay. It's none of your fucking business, why I'm still listening to you and I'm still responding. I'm pressing on you at the moment. Um, I'm interjecting at the right I'm piggybacking off of the right notes. So why, why do I need to be on camera? Because you know what bitch, what if I'm not feeling cute today?

Kristen:

Yes.

D'Janai:

W can I be, can I be ugly and peace in my own home? That's that's something that was going on before the pandemic. Why is it that like this work from home shit. it has triggered a constant sense of self-awareness that I never aspired. I don't ever want to be here. Okay. I don't, I want to think about, what I look like in my fucking house I'm chilling.

Kristen:

Tiller.

D'Janai:

So I don't understand. I don't understand that just last week, uh, uh, there was bonnet gate. You want to tell us, Kristen, what would the hell happen to you?

Kristen:

I, um, I have a work phone, so sometimes I just take calls from my phone rather than my laptop. It's easier. I can move around. Well, as a black girl, I sleep with a bonnet on every night, So I was on our daily morning call and I went to unmute and I accidentally clicked like the camera in. So my bonnet flashed across the screen. And this sheer panic that went through my body, although I shouldn't have even been embarrassed or given a fuck because you're lucky I'm here. I was embarrassed. And of course the only two people who saw were the other two black girls on the call and they were laughing their asses off, but no one else on the call saw and then also on the call saw, but yeah, I think that if people show up to a call that is more than enough forcing people to have to turn on their camera is cruel and unusual punishment. And I don't wanna have to put on a background or blur out the back of whatever, so it's just, it's annoying. And if I'm here and if I'm participating, that should be enough. Y'all don't have to see my face every day.

D'Janai:

it really should be enough because I feel like even Jesus said, come as you are. Y'all better than Jesus since let me know. Y'all y'all are more important than Jesus because.

Kristen:

grader. Come on now.

D'Janai:

not wish to take off my binder or my scar while I'm working from home. And I feel like, like you said, Kristen, you shouldn't have really given a fuck

Kristen:

No.

D'Janai:

because I feel like we should de-stigmatize bonnets. There was actually, I saw something on the TL today about somebody who got like fired or something for something bonnet related. And there is nothing unprofessional, unprofessional, unprofessional about, about it at all. I think this is, this is, this is the Hill I'm ready to die on because.

Kristen:

I understand. I understand I have one of on it outside of my home. I usually always put a hat over it just for personal preference, baby, if you want to wear your bonnet out to wherever do that, I think it should be up to the person it's subjective. But it is what it is.

D'Janai:

Right. I, I don't want to have to worry about people making certain judgements about me just because I have a bonnet on, I want to be, feel free to walk into Kroger with my bonnet on and be, I don't want nobody looking at me like I'm stealing. I'm not stealing bitch. I got a Kroger card. I'm trying to get these points.

Kristen:

Have points.

D'Janai:

Points the rack up. Okay. Anybody stealing stupid. Matter of fact, you know what, honestly, Kristen new merge. Okay. We can quiet as kept bonnet.

Kristen:

bonnets a

D'Janai:

know, make me act up because I will figure out a way to get some quiet. Y'all want that. And it wasn't quite as cat bonus and some yellow. Purple. How about that? Dark purple one.

Kristen:

Right. I think orange, orange is one of my

D'Janai:

That is cute. That's cute. I love that.

Kristen:

bright color

D'Janai:

Look, y'all let me know if y'all do y'all want a quick bonnet. You want a quiet as kept buying it? Let me know. I will figure out I'll find a manufacturer. We will get this in motion, but I feel like this is, this is the movement. Okay. All bond is 2021. We ain't getting out of the house any fucking way. Y'all believe me alone.

Kristen:

all of'em.

D'Janai:

What about you?

Kristen:

Um, Ooh, I have a brought to you by this week's brought to you by is by women's multivitamin. So I am not someone who has a regularly taken vitamins. I dabble in and out. I growing up, we started times took the Flintstones

D'Janai:

Yeah, I would say that's the only one

Kristen:

um, which were. I'm pretty sure. Chalk just molded into Flintstone

D'Janai:

really, really was

Kristen:

that was rough,

D'Janai:

seriously. No teeth. Why was I eating that?

Kristen:

Right. But I got a new multivitamin that I've been taking regularly now for about two weeks and I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I do feel better. And I have a lot more energy during the day. And I don't know if it's, I don't know if that's a direct reflection of that, but it is VIM person health.

D'Janai:

Oh, w w they better sponsor now the fuck.

Kristen:

health multi-vitamin it's GMO-free gluten-free dairy-free and soy-free, and it promotes heart and health and blood circulation helps support immune and adjustive systems supports the breast and bone health and provide some mental clarity and focus in a bitch has been focusing. Okay. Um, yeah, I mean, getting a lot done and I'm like, who is she? Who is she? Yes. So now I'm like on a really big vitamin kick and I want to like take them all. And I know my parents have been taking vitamin E every day, supposedly like helps with COVID or some shit, which there's a new strain. Yeah. And so strange. So bitch, we're done

D'Janai:

we are done for girl,

Kristen:

everyone. Pack it up,

D'Janai:

hang it up. Flat

Kristen:

Uh, yeah, but yeah.

D'Janai:

You're going to have to send me the link to that because I have tried different types of I've tried different types of vitamins, especially like what my Rose recent kick was like the gummy vitamins. I'm like, I don't remember to take this cause I'm gonna look forward to this little snack, but baby, baby, I was. I was, Oh, Dean on the fucking gummies. I'd be like, I'll take five today, bitch. I was sizzling like a Pepsi. I was like, Oh no, I shouldn't say so many bugging gummies. So I have zero self-control that's more of a me issue, but if I can find something that actually works, that'd be cool.

Kristen:

I like it. I like it a lot.

D'Janai:

Um,

Kristen:

sister left gummies at our apartment and they were unlabeled and I thought they were vitamins and turns out they were kids, melatonin, gummies, and I was taking like three a day. And when I told you I was sleeping any and everywhere, like it was embarrassing. No, I'm not even fucking getting out of taking him literally. Cause she flew in and then flew out. And so she had left him like over the weekend, into the weekend, they were like gone. And I was like, I don't know why I'm so tired. Like I feel flying, but I was, Oh, Dean, out to Courtney.

D'Janai:

Oh, my

Kristen:

But yeah, she finally told me, cause I was, I told her like, Oh, you left your gummies here, vitamins. And she was like, that's melatonin for kids. Have you been eating them? And I was like, no. And she was like, have you been eating them? All right, I'm gonna head out honey, but I have some good maps that we do. Whew.

D'Janai:

Okay. Uh, so we have some announcements, the moment y'all been waiting for, I hope y'all probably skipped at this point. Oh, by the way. Um, just the, I don't know, in the show notes in Apple podcasts, there are like chapters. So if you want to skip this part, um, or skip the intro or whatever, I mean, like that show business, but it's there. So you can just click that and it's gonna take you right. To the story, just so you know,

Kristen:

so we can see when you do that. So

D'Janai:

And, um, y'all really went up for this mug now, like this people who, uh, we ain't even know y'all was like on it and y'all was on it, like really, you know, trying to win this mug. So clearly, uh, it's in demand, which is great. Uh, and Kristen is going to do the honors of announcing the winner of the quiet as it's kept true crime. Crime is my love language.

Kristen:

Yes. Want to preface this by saying this was selected in a random generator. It was very fair. We threw all the names in and the entries and the winner is Rachel Kim.

D'Janai:

Rachel. Rachel, um, we hope you enjoyed it. I will be reaching out to, uh, confirm your address and get all the details. We hope you enjoy your mug. And then people who don't involve us were commenting like, Oh, this is my type of mug. Like I have to have this. So it was really heartwarming and sweet and we so truly appreciate the support. I hate saying that, but yeah. Rate, review, subscribe. And most, most importantly, tell a friend like the reason why Kristen and I started this podcast is because we did not. Like it didn't exist, like a true crime comedy podcasts, like specifically catering to black women and women of color. Um, I mean, all y'all, we love you all, all the colors, but women who, who sounded like us didn't exist like in, in this space. So that's why we did it. So there's probably, if you like it, you probably have like a friend or two that would really like this podcast. We want to spread the wealth, spread the love, um, as always.

Kristen:

Yay.

D'Janai:

Oh, also in, uh, this week, we're going to introduce a new segment called, um, loud and wrong, it,

Kristen:

This is not on my agenda.

D'Janai:

it goes to me, Saki speaks fully got me together last week. She was like, um, Oh, shout out to the Aunty of the pods. I can speak. She said she was like, yeah. So just so you know, the ghost of a good person in reference to last week's episode on Teracita bossa, Chris did an excellent job covering that story. Um, she said that, the ghost of a good person is not a demon. I was like, no, but it just sounded funny, but yeah, you right. Um, okay. So with that being said, we're done with announcements. We are moving on to the story this week. This week is my turn girl, secure your

Kristen:

are we in for a doozy?

D'Janai:

In for a doozy.

Kristen:

Okay.

D'Janai:

I say that every week, one day is going to be a don't see. And I'm gonna tell you, but, um, this week, um, this week I'm going to cover the story of the late great actress. Brittany Murphy.

Kristen:

I know that's right.

D'Janai:

Yes, ma'am. We're getting into it.

Kristen:

I love Brittany Murphy.

D'Janai:

Like so lovable and so like everything. So first off, I mean, if you are like a gen Z year or whatever, like, you don't know who Brittany Murphy is, shame on you, but you probably, I mean, if you don't know her, then you definitely know her work because Brittany Murphy's like. Ban of work has, you know, she was very popular throughout the nineties through the two thousands. And so, um, I feel like millennials, gen Z are, is they probably know her for her iconic role in clueless the most, you know, as the biggest one.

Kristen:

You're a burgeon who can't drive. Yeah.

D'Janai:

Okay. I got to tell you, I got it.

Kristen:

Okay. She hasn't seen it. I don't want to talk about it next, next, next.

D'Janai:

I'm a piece of shit, girl. I was like, I can't believe I've never seen this movie before, but I swear to God, I'm gonna watch this movie. I'm just too busy doing research to watch it. I'm going to watch it. Um, I am a disappointment, uh, uptown girls, which is my that's my favorite. I loved her and uptown girl. She

Kristen:

Okay.

D'Janai:

like, what was the song? Molly's mom.

Kristen:

Maybe

D'Janai:

What was the other song? It was the other song.

Kristen:

Molly's smile.

D'Janai:

Her halo, something like

Kristen:

yes.

D'Janai:

Oh my God. That movie was so fucking cute. I need that. I need that shit on DVD, but uptown girls and of course, okay. For you fucking babies on this podcast, she was Gloria and happy feet.

Kristen:

she will is. Oh, I didn't. I forgot about that.

D'Janai:

So Brittany Murphy, she was the all American Hollywood it girl before her tragic and. Untimely death in 2009. And at the time it was just. Like I was in high school, but, you know, you hear things and it was widely reported that, she died of a drug overdose because of rumors of drug abuse for, years and years. And I just, I heard that and I was like, okay, that's what happened? But I decided to do her story because I didn't know that there have been whole entire conspiracy theories within an S about her death, even books. Based on it and like documentaries and everything. And according to many people, the circumstances of her death remain a mystery to this day,

Kristen:

Hm

D'Janai:

to this date. So I'm going to. Layout everything. So you don't have to go on down this crazy rabbit hole. Cause there's a lot of shit. I'm going to save you the time and the effort. And I'm going to walk you through everything you at the end. Y'all need to tell me what y'all think happened here. okay, So let's start from the beginning. So Brittany and Bertalotty known wildly by her stage name, Brittany Murphy was, did you know that she was born in Atlanta, Georgia?

Kristen:

no, I did it.

D'Janai:

He is a Georgia peach like

Kristen:

Yay. Yeah.

D'Janai:

Um, so she was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Sharon, Kathleen Murphy and Angelo Joseph Bertalotty on November 10th, 1977, which I believe would make her a Sagittarius. Uh, MSCI has had a child Jarius.

Kristen:

I think you're right. Is she Italian? Berta? Telly, that's a,

D'Janai:

her dad is. Yeah.

Kristen:

okay. Let's say that's an Italian last name.

D'Janai:

um, so, uh, Well, y'all seen that video. Oh, we got to repost that. I have to find it somewhere. Cut to me. Looking up GABA goo in buggy. How do you spell GABA? Goo Google search. Um, you know, no offense to anybody. Who's Italian love you love, love your food. Love your people. Um, But yeah. So, uh, Sharon and Angelo met while he was doing business in like South Florida. And it said that she was attracted to his, you know, his bad boy image, which confused me at first because when I was doing initial research, all I could see is like, her dad was like a, like a world war II combat vet. And I was like, Hmm. A bad boy, but apparently he almost died when the ship that he was on. Got blown the fuck up. So yeah, which, I mean, people could be lying about that. That could be conjecture, but you know, what makes the story more colorful? So he cheated death. And then upon reentering society in his early twenties, at some point he became out of all things, a mortician. I mean cool. But also, Ooh,

Kristen:

Right, right.

D'Janai:

it's giving out a while, but, along the line, he decided, you know what, I'm going to crime. So he decided it was prime crime time, or this man has lived like a battle knives. So what type of crime you ask? Organized crime, of course, uh, counterfeiting, racketeering, you know, some mob wives shit. So he meets Sharon while he's, you know, be bopping around town, in the South, and so apparently Sharon, she went to work for him now, as what, as a stripper, as a bartender, as an accountant, I do not know. I couldn't find it, but they met at work. Or why he was at work. So apparently he owned or co owned some strip clubs and nightclubs between Florida and Georgia. And it said that Sharon who's, you know, she's young at this point, she was attracted to this, you know, this money, this influence, she's looking at him like he's some big way, uh, New York, my

Kristen:

yeah, powerful hand in a lot of pots. I get the appeal.

D'Janai:

Right. He's got a toothpick in his mouth. He's flipping a coin. He's leaned up

Kristen:

chain.

D'Janai:

chest hair, all that. So she's like, I liked that. So Bertalotty, you know, he he's from New York actually. From an Italian family, that was apparently very well connected. And so, you know, she was like, I want me a piece. I liked it. So they started dating now. I don't know how long they were together before they got married. But I do know that they divorced when Brittany was just like two years old. So I'm not exactly sure what the circumstances of the divorce were. Exactly. But I do know that by the time Brittany was a toddler, Bertalotty had been convicted for racketeering. And over the course of her, childhood and teen years, he would go on to spend a total of nine years in and out of the Atlanta penitentiary, you know, so wasn't really present. All the while Brittany was being raised by her mother alone, you know, just them two in Edison, New Jersey. From the age of four, she'd been trained in singing, dancing, acting. She attended the Verne Fowler school of dance and, theater arts.

Kristen:

Hello.

D'Janai:

Yeah, girl. She was very talented. And when she was like 12, 13 years old, she asked her mom if they could move to California so that she could pursue her dream as an entertainer, which, you know, I find so very telling because if her mom was black, she would have been like, um, do you have moved to California money? Like, what are you even talking

Kristen:

Right. Do you have Michael Jackson talent? If not keep it on the playground, literally.

D'Janai:

Until I see a moonwalk little girl, you will be in these little pageants and, uh, be a tree. You could be at any, wants to, nobody nobody's California, but Sharon was different. Okay. Sharon said, sure. So when she's like, I think 12, 13, she sends Brittany to Hollywood. With a chaperone for Hm Hm. Uh, unnamed chaperone, but somebody okay. For two whole months. So I guess, you know, things were looking good on the West coast because not long after that, Sharon decided to sell all their shit and moved to LA to be with her daughter and, help her pursue her dream. But as it turns out, this wasn't a terribly bad decision. She, you know, uh, because soon after moving, Brittany landed her first like Hollywood role, She also guest starred on several television series that y'all probably heard of Parker Lewis. Can't lose. Heard of it. Never seen it blossom again, heard of it. Never seen it. See quest 20, 32 fuck. Is that? I don't know. Um, murder one, heard of never seen it. Frazier heard of seen it. Didn't like it.

Kristen:

Right. Not that funny.

D'Janai:

No, I don't know what white people were wearing in the nineties.

Kristen:

She, she was in sister, sister.

D'Janai:

what I want to say. Yes. So what we know her. Exactly. Yes. Sister,

Kristen:

Yes. She had the, she got married in trouble because of her boyfriend who they snuck in the house. Oh my gosh.

D'Janai:

influence. She was also on in party of five, never seen it and boy meets world, which I do. I feel like I do remember that.

Kristen:

Love women's

D'Janai:

That was a good show. Um, So the Hollywood girls clearly could not get enough. They are loving Brittany. She is making money, you know, so she's doing good. But then the big one hits, of course, Brittany Murphy stars as the adorable, lovable, Ty Frasier include. Plus I did mention that I have never seen clueless. Um, Shame shit. I really never been into teen movies.

Kristen:

Uh, but wait, can you not watch clueless yet? Wait, because I'm coming to Atlanta next weekend for my birthday so we can just watch it together. That'll be cathartic. We should watch it

D'Janai:

Yes. Yes. Okay. The movies that I haven't seen, it's really a Sydney sense and I need to get my shit together. So I'm going to rectify this it's Christmas birthday next week. Oh yeah. Shout out to Kristin turning 21. Um,

Kristen:

Yay.

D'Janai:

is nobody's 21 y'all but, um, so then yeah. Uh, you know, she, she stars in clueless alongside, um, Alicia Silverstone and Stacy trash. you know, of course it becomes a nineties cult classic. And so because of that, that kind of catapults sorts, a famous, she works on a bunch of more shows, a bunch more movies throughout the nineties. And the 2000, including don't say a word, which I've never seen, but I want to see it, uh,

Kristen:

Michael Douglas

D'Janai:

Oh, yes, yes, yes. Okay. I need to see that eight mile, which I've never seen in won't ever fucking see

Kristen:

it's just like you're breaking my heart. Like, okay. I get it. However I know there are a lot of things said about Eminem and I know he has been problematic, homophobic but eight mile is actually a very great film and a good piece of work. And. I would, I think you would actually enjoy it because there's other stuff like, uh, no, that is not forced would occur in there. Um, it's just the guy who, a bigger guy in their cotton looks like forest Whitaker on the slick, Rick, um, you know, who was in there, Anthony? Uh, Anthony Mackie, but I met him at a restaurant and he was a fucking Dick. You can quote me on that. Yeah, he was not nice at all.

D'Janai:

His chin is too small to be acting too big. Like he's, he's he's not nice.

Kristen:

He was not

D'Janai:

I got to tell you something. I thought his little small chin was kinda cute and she hate me, but, um,

Kristen:

ugly or whatever. He ain't nice or he wasn't nice to me. I was a hostess with, into the restaurant. He was not very nice. So.

D'Janai:

I know he's somebody spot three. He needed to have some manners about himself. Um, I didn't know he was in it. I know, I knew that what's his name was in it with that fucking mop on his head. And I was like, this is, did Tyler Perry. Was he on wigs on this movie? I don't need to see this shit,

Kristen:

worst lace front I've ever seen in my entire

D'Janai:

it's funny that you mentioned, um, eight mile because it, Oh, you know, you said M and M was problematic, but my issue with M and M I just hate his fucking voice cinnamon in a minute. And then in the movement, it's a minute in a minute and all men are friends. I'm like, okay, leave

Kristen:

Right. His music did not. His music in voice is very much early two thousands, but you cannot deny his impact. On the early two thousands, I guess, is what I'm trying to say. Like, he was good for what it was back then,

D'Janai:

Oh girl, slim. Shady is where I draw the line baby. But uh, yeah, so she was in all these movies um, a fun fact. Did you know that Brittany, we also voiced Luanne platter on King of the Hill. She was a teenage niece. Yeah. Lot of people didn't know that. But, um, yeah, since that range and of course that wouldn't be the last time Brittany would lend her voice to an animated on-scene character because in 2006, she voiced Gloria and happy feet. Habibi was huge. Huge. Everybody loved that movie kids, adults. It was so cute. So pure. I was fully in high school way too grown to be watching, uh, happy feet on demand every weekend. But bitch, I was parked in front of that TV. Like again,

Kristen:

yeah, great soundtrack too. I think that's what propelled, like the soundtrack was amazing.

D'Janai:

so. Yeah. I mean, she was coming kind of coming down off this high. So it really shocked the world that just three years after happy feet came out headlines around the country would report that Brittany Murphy had died suddenly in her left Los Angeles home on December 20th, 2009 at the young age of 32. So let's go back to two weeks before her death.

Kristen:

Okay.

D'Janai:

So it's late 2009 and Brittany had flown to Puerto Rico to shoot a horror film called the color. And her mother and her husband, Simon monjack traveled with her. Did she know? Did you know that she was married?

Kristen:

I did.

D'Janai:

Oh, okay. I did not know she was married so, a few sources say that Sharon and Simon, while. In Puerto Rico contracted staph infections, So Brittany was pretty much taking care of them while she's trying to, to work. But not long after she arrived on set to work, she was off the movie, all just gone. Bye girl, you go in and clock out for me, baby. So there was no official statement as to why she was replaced with another actress. Some say she was fired because of her husband. Uh, there are rumors that he was. Once, some of them say that he was sick and she was a care for them. Some say he was drunk on set.

Kristen:

Oh,

D'Janai:

Um, but, and you know what some people say that she left due to creative differences with the director. I mean, at this point, well, we'll never know, but she's off that movie, but shortly after, the. Puerto Rico incident, she's working on another horror film up in Oregon called something wicked. So while nobody had anything really to say about what happened with the color, the Oregonians, they have something to say they were not as discreet. So somebody either from or close to the production team claimed that while filming Brittany was. Barely able to shoot her scenes and, and would pretty much like go in and out of consciousness in the middle of the takes. So they had to like keep retaking them and it was like really a problem. And it got so bad that the producers had to rewrite her character, like completely rehaul the whole shit. Um, and a bunch of other characters in order to make it even work. Like they were like, we gotta finish the shit.

Kristen:

Yeah.

D'Janai:

Um, they assumed that she was on prescription drugs, but whoever this, the source was the guy, he goes on to say that her husband was her handler. He showed her around. She was barely there. so, um, so he's referring to Murphy's husband and manager. Simon monjack.

Kristen:

I have a quick anecdote or comment, is it, I don't know much about shooting movies or anything, but you know, you see an interviews, people who. Let's say are in a relationship with another actor and they're an actor themselves. Is it normal for family members to come and stay with you when you're going to shoot? Because it's one thing. If you're just flying out there. Like even a Puerto Rico, but to have your mom and husband come, that just seems a little too close for comfort. And you're not hired mom and husband. It's she's hired. So why are y'all even there? She seems like it just like I could get if it was a 16 year old, but she's grown as hell. So why does she mean, I don't know, just a little weird.

D'Janai:

you're right. Because you know, I'm glad you brought this up So let's talk about Brittany Murphy's husband for a minute.

Kristen:

Okay.

D'Janai:

I'm in Mon. Jack was a British screenwriter, film director. I can't, I can't do a British accent anymore. It's really embarrassing film director. Can you do it?

Kristen:

A film director.

D'Janai:

Fuck. Okay. Film

Kristen:

I practiced way too often. It's not a cute

D'Janai:

to be able, I used to have it, it's gone now. Every time I try to do it, it comes out really bad or like an Australian accent and like feeling directed, like

Kristen:

Cry.

D'Janai:

and a makeup author. I can't do it anymore. Um, but yeah, so he screenwriter, film, director, film, producer, and a makeup artist. Wikipedia really goes into details about his life, but I will spare you those boring details, but I will tell you two things. I want you to know that that one, his family is Jewish and two, his mother was a hypnotherapist.

Kristen:

Oh, geez.

D'Janai:

Um, Hmm. Um, so. All that he has all these titles. He probably hasn't worked on anything that you've ever heard of. So I will not waste your time. But in 2001, he married a British psychosexual and relationship therapists in Las Vegas, which has really nothing to do with nothing, but I'm like, okay, your mom's a therapist, a psycho, a hypnotherapist. Now a psychosexual fuck. Is that.

Kristen:

a lot happening.

D'Janai:

a lot of cycle going on. So it a pattern, but they divorced in 2006. Um, coincidentally, uh, this was the same year that he became romantically involved with Brittany Murphy, who also, I want to know that he was married a total of three times in his lifetime. Um, he also had a daughter, uh, that he wasn't taking care of. So yeah, this is the same year. He became involved with Brittany Murphy at the time Brittany was 29 and Simon was 36, which not the, not the worst, uh, different, um, but according to an interview that was done, with the now late Larry King rest in peace, uh, Simon and Brittany had met. Many years before, you know, they actually became, uh, romantically involved in the interview, which aired about two months after her death. Simon says he met Brittany when she was 17 and he was a part-time photographer at the time and had taken her pictures. And he says that, you know, they just kept in touch over the years, which he would have been 24 years old. So. I don't know what type of touch his grown fucking ass would've needed to you keep it so much with this minor young girl, but, okay. Uh, he says that they were friendly. What the fuck are y'all

Kristen:

what does that mean?

D'Janai:

She's talking about stickers. You trying to get car insurance, like what do y'all have in common, but he says that they were friendly and quote, I would visit her on sets and see Sharon. Okay. Uh, and he says that the romantic part of the relationship would come later when she was in her twenties. Now as an adult, Brittany Murphy had been romantically connected to a few famous, you know, handsome men, including Ashton Kutcher.

Kristen:

literally.

D'Janai:

Like would forsake all the ancestors for some pink pain.

Kristen:

It's the cream milk right there. Supreme

D'Janai:

And so this man, Simon Mondex, when I saw him, I said, I know you fucking lying to me like this man. Was not hot, like offensively on hot. If you're at home. Pause real quick. Um, look it up. Okay. He looks like big ed from 90 day fiance. I'm not fucking joking. Yes. That is the man with no neck. Um, just pause this real quick. Google bot Simon, my M O N J a C K and then come right back. Come right back.

Kristen:

Oh, my gosh.

D'Janai:

Okay. Did you see it? Uh, Oh girl. Okay. So, um, I was like, she's in her twenties. Why would she marry this man? Like, and it's not like, it's not because he was like, uh, you know, not a famous guy. She was used to dating regular degular. She had previously been engaged a couple of times actually to, to a talent manager. And then when I was like, I dunno, a couple of months, then she was also engaged to a production assistant, uh, until 2006. And, but then, you know, next thing you know, she's engaged to Simon monjack and in 2007, the two were married in a private Jewish ceremony on her property. So,

Kristen:

Um,

D'Janai:

In the interview that I'm referencing this Larry King live interview with Sharon Murphy and Simon monjack. Uh, they're trying to, at this point address, the numerous rumors that have come about after Brittany's death, because everyone in the media is trying to point the finger at either Brittany's drug use or like maybe her mother, Sharon, or even her husband's specifically really her husband Simon monjack because, Simon was under scrutiny, a lot more scrutiny than anything else, because in the years leading up to Brittany's death, he had been in some legal trouble. So, uh, in 2005, he had a warrant out for his arrest in Virginia on charges of credit card fraud, Lawrence.

Kristen:

Oh, baby.

D'Janai:

looking for his motherfucking ass. They were trying to throw him in the pokey. but eventually the charges were dropped. Okay. Uh, then the next year coops or coats, I don't know how to pronounce this, uh, bank. I believe it's, it's a UK bank, uh, successfully sued. Monjack who had been evicted from not one, not two, not three buckets for homes.

Kristen:

Oh my gosh.

D'Janai:

the fuck does that even happen? Uh, and they sued him for$470,000. So, um, um,

Kristen:

Scammer.

D'Janai:

yes, the scammer live was for him. And then, later on, in February, 2007, this is after he connected with, um, with Brittany. My Jack was arrested and he had spent nine days in jail and they was trying to deport his motherfucking ass. They said, get your shit and get out because you, you, you acting up. Um, and his visa had expired. So some say that his expired visa was actually the reason why Brittany Murphy married him in the first place. Like, they've just started to say, like, you know, maybe they were just friends and she just was trying to keep him in the country. She was doing a favor, but nonetheless, they were attached at the hip. He went everywhere with her. Her mother as well. They were all just the three Musketeers, always traveling together. So then when, uh, Sharon and Simon got sick, on their trip to Puerto Rico, Brittany was the one to take care of them, when they caught that staph infection. But of course she contracted the staph infection in an effort to take care of them And so by mid December she was suffering from laryngitis and Basically, they're saying that she had like anemia, like she was, she had been suffering from like her second period in a month. Like, so within 20 days she had two periods, which is, yeah. Not good for anybody. Um, so she was sick for a while. for like six weeks, she thought that she could overcome it and she did not seek any medical attention. She was just like self-medicating. But, on the Friday before her passing, she called to make an appointment for the following Monday. She was like, I'm feeling too sick. Like, whatever I'm doing is not working. I need to see a doctor, but unfortunately She never made it through that weekend. So here's what happened on the day of her death. Simon was there. And Sharon, her mother was also there in the house and Sharon was there because she had been living in the house with both Brittany and her husband for the last three and a half years of their marriage. Yeah. Um, Simon recalls that on the morning of December 20th, 2009, Brittany was struggling to breathe. He says, quote, she was fighting for air. So she goes outside to get some fresh air. And Sharon had come down to tend to her daughter. So soon after that, Brittany goes into the bathroom and Simon says, and this is. During this Larry King interview, just so you know, um, Simon says, he thinks this is a good sign. You know, he thinks this is her going to the bathroom is a sign that she's pulling herself together. then he goes on this weird fucking tangent. He's like, you know, now it's a good sign. She's pulling herself together, you know, reading the Vogue and putting on lipstick. And I'm like, didn't you just say she was fighting for her

Kristen:

right. Does she crawl to the bathroom? My nigga,

D'Janai:

Like, what are you talking about? He's like, Oh yeah. So she was, her lips were blue and she was struggling to breathe, but now she's in the bathroom putting on lipstick and

Kristen:

and reading bitch.

D'Janai:

so then Larry King, he was like, he had, cause he was about to go on, on the whole thing and Larry King had to reign him in like, okay. And then nigga, are you insane? What happened? Did you forget that you were describing your late wife's the last moments.

Kristen:

Right?

D'Janai:

Weirdo anyways. uh, meanwhile, Brittany, she's, she's in the bathroom, she's still unable to breathe. And I think while she's in the shower, she collapses and she, her mother is there in the bathroom with her and Sharon claims that Brittany in her last moments looks to her mother right in her eyes. And she says, mom, I'm dying. I love you. So it's at that point that Sharon yells for Simon to come into the bathroom and Simon attempts to give her CPR, but not mouth to mouth. But, uh, with the heel of his hand, like, you know, like hitting her between the shoulder blades, I think like, like you would do like with a baby. So

Kristen:

I'm sorry, is there no phones in the home? It just gone ahead and cut. I need to be Lance.

D'Janai:

So you thank you for bringing me. Cause I was going to be my, my first like your, your daughter and your wife wakes up. She says she's kind of blue in the face. Her lips are turning blue. She's having top will be the, and she's like, just go outside. Your lungs will work out there. It's about these walls. That's preventing you from breathing properly. Are you insane?

Kristen:

Oh my gosh.

D'Janai:

Um, So, but now he's, he's trying to give her CPR not calling the police. Still Simon tell Sharon, he tells her to call nine one one. Now I ain't got no fucking kids. Um, I don't think you need to have kids to be like, you know what? This is kind of, this is above my pay grade. I need to call somebody. This is outside of the scope of what I'm able to do. It would have been immediate as soon as you collapsed call nine one one, we, anybody. It's that simple, so he finally tells you to call when she calls. I didn't listen to the nine 11 call the whole thing. Cause I got the creeps, but when she's on the phone with, the operator she's like somebody fell like somebody collapsed. I'm like somebody,

Kristen:

my child.

D'Janai:

your child, your daughter,

Kristen:

My alias actors, chop. That's the time where you need to use that shit. My alias actor daughter, Brittany Murphy, who has started X, Y, and Z house collapsed. And now I need to get someone out here, Pronto, the fuck.

D'Janai:

So nine minutes later, the paramedics arrived. They take Brittany to Cedar Sinai medical center, Simon and Sharon. They follow in the car behind, the ambulance, and they, they wait in there, they go in the waiting room. So they're waiting, waiting. And some sources say that she was pronounced dead on arrival. You know, some say that she, she just got gone on gone into cardiac arrest or, you know, she was just unresponsive. But Simon says, I hate saying that Simon says that he asked the doctors to resuscitate, even though they told him that if even if she were to come through, she would suffer brain damage, but he's like, you know, do it anyway, whatever you need to do to keep her alive. Okay. So. Unfortunately, Brittany went into cardiac arrest while at the hospital and by 10:04 AM the doctors come out and tell Sharon assignment that Brittany had passed away.

Kristen:

Yeah.

D'Janai:

So again, her death shocked the world and although a lot of the media reported initially that drugs were the culprit. People really wanted to know for sure happened, you know, but. What a lot of people didn't realize until later on people didn't know that at first time and did not want an autopsy. He had in fact objected to an autopsy at first, which he could do because he was, but also because,

Kristen:

He's executive or state, but

D'Janai:

because he's Jewish. Yes. So,

Kristen:

Oh yeah, that was Nick.

D'Janai:

that was, that was lined up. Um, yeah, so I don't know if Britney ever converted, but they did get married in a Jewish ceremony and, it's common practice. for Jewish people to, you know, deny, uh, an autopsy. so at first he didn't want to, but the next day, you know, people were like, Oh, this is a pretty much a healthy woman. People are going to want to know like what the fuck happened here. So I guess, you know, they put the pressure on them and by the next day he, he allowed them autopsy to be performed. And on December 21st, 2009, her death certificate listed the cause of death as deferred. Bitch. Is this a dream? Exactly. What do you mean deferred? This? Ain't no reason in the sun. I need to know what the fuck happened.

Kristen:

Or college acceptance letter? What the hell?

D'Janai:

So it stayed deferred too. It stayed as deferred for over a month until February 4th, when the LA County coroner finally stated that the primary cause of Brittany Murphy's death was pneumonia. With secondary factors of iron deficiency, anemia, and Sharon is going to say that this was due to her period. Um, and multiple drug intoxication. And I'll get into that in a second. So on February 25th, 2010, the coroner released a report stating that, uh, Britney Murphy had taken a range of over the counter and prescription medications. And with the most likely reason being to try to treat like some kind of cold or respiratory infection, that's what they say. Uh, but they did report on the types of drugs that she was taking. Uh, and they found elevated levels of hydrocodone. God helped me hydrocodone, acetaminophen, L methamphetamine and

Kristen:

all sounds like shit. You should not mix ever,

D'Janai:

right, right. So they were. So they were saying like, these are these, aren't just, you know, this ain't, nobody's been a drill. This is some real shit. And I remember this and it just didn't make any sense. But the, you know, this, of course the streets were saying it's really, it was a drug overdose and it did it. Wasn't far-fetched because it was 2009. And. In the late two thousands, it seemed like nobody who was like a celebrity had heard of PR like what's a publicist what's discretion. The girls were mess. Okay. Y'all remember crotch shots,

Kristen:

Okay. They were coming out, Joel rock from the club care in the world, baby.

D'Janai:

cocaine. Like it was crazy. Uh, Lindsay Lohan was like on her fifth rehab state. It was ridiculous. So, and LAPD

Kristen:

was like, come on now.

D'Janai:

Exactly. So LAPD was given out DUIs and to any and everyone. So it was just like, you know what everybody is on the drugs. Um, so it wasn't Farfetch and people believed it. And also there had been rumors because she had lost weight.

Kristen:

She was really skinny. I remember that. And she dyed her hair really dark. And when I was like, are you got the, like, what's going on? Um, but I remember she got really, really tiny.

D'Janai:

And a lot of people had been speculating about drug use being the culprit. So it was very easy for people to believe that. So when LAPD searched Brittany and Simon's bedroom, they found approximately. Girl. What would you think is like a high number of prescription pill bottle? This many number

Kristen:

Um, 10.

D'Janai:

they found 90 prescription pill bottles in Simon's name. So his name is on them, right? So it's not prescribed to her. And on. His side of the bed, there's a lot of, uh, prescription pill bottles, but there are also a large number of them on her side of the bed. So, Hm. Um, but again, all these low drugs were legal and still her death was ruled to be an accident. Um, the chief on the case, he said that Brittany had probably been sick for about two weeks and honestly, her death. Could have been totally avoided if they had just taken her to the hospital and stopped trying to play doctor and mass Chris' symptoms with medication with, from God knows where,

Kristen:

Right.

D'Janai:

um, so, you know, very sad. This comes about two months after her death, but by the time this ruling came, Brittany's family and friends had already, you know, more inter buried her, On December 24th, 2009. This is about, was this three days, four days,

Kristen:

Yeah. For, cause he got on the 20th. Yeah.

D'Janai:

And I just want to note this in this interview, the Larry King interview that I keep referring to, um, Sharon revealed that she and Simon were so distraught that they couldn't bear to arrange the funeral. So they had one of Brittany's friends do it.

Kristen:

as in her own fucking mother, couldn't arrange her daughter's funeral,

D'Janai:

she was, she was too far gone, honey. She was, she was toe up. She couldn't, she couldn't bear to do it. So she had a friend do it.

Kristen:

but you can, you can bear to go on a Larry King. Okay.

D'Janai:

Oh, yeah. Uh, two months. Oh, and there's more girl. So, a lot of people suspected that Simon had killed Brittany for either, you know, like the royalties or the insurance money. Um and it didn't help that. Sharon and Simon went on Larry King live and Simon was questioned about like, why didn't you take Brittany to the hospital? Um, when she first started showing signs of sickness and Simon said, Brittany, you know, Brittany had laryngitis. He goes, I'm a rabbi. I'm not a doctor. Bitch. Take her to a doctor.

Kristen:

my nigga. So take her to the doctor.

D'Janai:

Right. And honestly, y'all, I keep referring to this interview. I beg of you, please watch or read the transcripts from this Larry King, your interview. It was so fucking weird, Chris. And I swear to God, like in the interview, Sharon and Simon, they calling each other baby and sweetheart. Simon is every five seconds. Simon is going off on these ridiculous, like whimsical tangents. Like he's like, he's not talking about his newlywed, his wife, his new wife that died tragically in the home where he still lives.

Kristen:

With her mom.

D'Janai:

He was like, uh, he said that he did her hair and her makeup and dressed her. And, uh, you referred to like when, when he would like, you know, get her all gussied up and stuff, he referred to this as their magic time.

Kristen:

No one asked my guy.

D'Janai:

Wow. Fully could have kept that. It just only added more fuel to the fire. It's insane. And Christian girl. He on, on television, he called her a monkey,

Kristen:

A monkey

D'Janai:

He said to Larry King, he said, listen to me, Brittany was a monkey. Larry King said, meaning.

Kristen:

explain quickly.

D'Janai:

Yeah, hurry up. Cause I'm losing my patience with your bitch ass. And he goes, meaning that if she wasn't clinging to me, she was clinging to her mom or the dog. She just, she just had to be loved girl. I wish my husband would, after my tragic fucking death were referred to me. As a monkey on national television in front of us.

Kristen:

Oh, my gosh

D'Janai:

When I tell you he would never know peace, he would never, ever, ever know piece. He would never know sleep. Every time he called owes his fucking eyes, my ghost would be,

Kristen:

I'm a terrorist see to that ass. And after I do that, I'm a haunt you for the rest of your fucking life? Not no, just all my arrest of your life.

D'Janai:

When I tell you, like I would be yanking the fucking comforter off his stupid body while he's sleeping. I would be stacking the chairs in the dining room, like up. It's a Poltergeist

Kristen:

Okay. Topsy, turvy, wake up.

D'Janai:

I mean, knocking shit off this

Kristen:

I didn't get no sleep. Uh y'all y'all not going to get.

D'Janai:

No, do not fucking do it. I'll show you a monkey bitch. Play with y'all mama. Don't play with me.

Kristen:

right, right.

D'Janai:

girl? When I read that, I was like, Oh, this nigga is unhinged. He was clearly on another. He was someplace else. Ridiculous. So that was really weird. So, like I said, the accidental death ruling came in February of 2010 and just like this weird ass interview, with Larry King in this attempt to, clear a few things up and provide some answers. they just leave people with more questions than answers, especially because they clearly seem to be leaning on each other. For emotional support and as they grieved,

Kristen:

Appropriately, not like how a mother and a widow should be leaning, like borderline, sexually inappropriate relations.

D'Janai:

okay, you should see these fucking pictures. So they pose for like this bizarre photo shoot where they are literally embracing each other. Like they were high school sweethearts or some shit

Kristen:

Yeah.

D'Janai:

she's leaning on his chest. They're holding hands. They're looking like all for Lauren, trying to pretend to be sad for the camera I would've just called the police for that. Like, what are y'all doing? And this came just three weeks. These pictures were taken three weeks after Brittany's death. And I'm going to post, don't worry. I'm posting it on the Instagram, the pictures that you know, that I'm talking about, you will see for yourself how weird this shit is. very weird, but apparently everyone in this house, you know, with the number of prescriptions or whatever, like everybody was some kind of sick. I didn't mention this before, but, on the way back from Puerto Rico, Simon had actually suffered from a slight heart attack on the plane. Yeah. I slight heart attack. How do you have a slight heart attack? I said you had a heart attack or you did not, but that was the, that was the language that was used. Okay. Y'all can have it. Um, but also for a long time, he had suffered from seizures and sleep apnea. And I'm just like, what part of this to a 29 year old is, is, is interesting or, uh, appealing and just a side note, like he said, in the interview that they were planning to have a baby I'm like, why? So you can fucking. What you ain't gonna be here in too long by the looks of it. I don't want to have no baby with you, but that's when he says maybe they were like, Oh, we were just on the precipice of starting our lives together. We were going to have moved to New York and have a baby

Kristen:

Not in this lifetime clearly. Oh,

D'Janai:

now with the sleep apnea. So, Sharon, she had been sick with cancer, breast cancer, maybe once or twice. Um, and she had neuropathy, which I don't know what that is, but it sounds bad for several years at bright at this point. Uh, and after Brittany pass Simon and Sharon continued to live in the home where Brittany died for several months, I understand grieving, but

Kristen:

uh, yeah, I can honestly say, if the love of my life or my husband passed away in our home. It would be on the market pretty soon.

D'Janai:

So, yeah, they continue to live in that house for several months, they were able to afford to do so. But then on May 23rd, 2010, just five months after Brittany died, Simon monjack was found dead in the same, in the same house. Sharon Murphy called nine one one. When she found Simon, she claims that she found Simon unconscious in the master bedroom at around 9:20 PM. The paramedics arrived and they tried to work on him, but he was gone. Simon monjack was pronounced dead at nine 45. He was 39 years listen. So this is may in July, 2010. Couple of months later, the coroner's report found the cause of Mon Jag's death to be not the sleep apnea, not the seizures, but acute pneumonia and severe anemia. Interesting.

Kristen:

Girl up in Brittany's body.

D'Janai:

Exactly. These are the same causes attributed to his wife deaths just five months earlier in the same fucking house. So. This just about late all those rumors about Simon having something to do with Brittany's death to rest, but then the attention shifts to share it because it's like, what the hell are you doing?

Kristen:

Right. Both people that you're living with. Dive pneumonia, girl.

D'Janai:

so then the attention shifted to Sharon Murphy, right? Rightfully so, because after all. Two days before Brittany and Simon, weren't officially married. Simon signed away all his spousal rights and left everything to Brittany. And I mean, everything Brittany's entire estate to Sharon Murphy, her mother. So he didn't, he didn't get a dime. Everything went to Sharon.

Kristen:

Wow.

D'Janai:

So had a will written up and everything. It was like, yeah, give it to your mother,

Kristen:

Mommy fucking dearest.

D'Janai:

girl. and it did not help that Sharon did some questionable shit after both her daughter and son-in-law passed away. I'm gonna go down the list. You ready? January, 2010, right after Brittany died, Sharon and Simon established a Brittany Murphy foundation. Sounds nice. Right? Okay. A charitable fund for children's arts education, as well as supporting the, uh, the USO and cancer research. This is what they're saying, which sounds nice. But how about a record search revealed that the foundation's not-for-profit status had never been fucking filed.

Kristen:

Are you serious?

D'Janai:

everything was going directly into their fucking pocket.

Kristen:

I mean, they're making Joanne Prada look like an angel

D'Janai:

Right. This, this shit is insane. The foundation, ended up having to refund. All the donations because, you know, they got caught and, uh, an official letter from the website, they were like, Oh no, we wanted to get the foundation set up as quickly as possible. We had, establish as a private foundation just to, you know, to make sure that it was, as soon as possible, but, you know, we were going to apply for nonprofit status later.

Kristen:

That's not how nonprofits work. That should be. Your first mine of business is applying for your nonprofit, and then you accept donations after that. Once your ducks are in a fucking row, you don't start accepting donations before you have. Approval to even be a nonprofit. Hello?

D'Janai:

And what would be the reason, but we wanted to get it up as soon as possible. She's dead. We, we didn't even, we didn't even order this girl. We did not

Kristen:

No, no, no one was asking.

D'Janai:

So it didn't make any sense, um, for, to girl hold on to your wig. So Sharon sold her daughter's clothes and personal items, including her underwear and passport on auction sites for thousands of dollars after her death. I'm not fucking joking. I'm not fucking joking.

Kristen:

DJ de Her her underwear.

D'Janai:

uh, dirt wear a bathing suits to clothes that she wore on the red carpet, her sag ID, like the fuck? Thousands of dollars then. During a TV interview. She's Oh, she's doing these bizarre interviews. Nobody's asking for this. She's just like come to the home. She's doing all these interviews

Kristen:

a beat. It's not funny, but what the fuck

D'Janai:

She wants, he wants to give people a tour of, The place where her daughter, I can't even wrap my mind around it. I would never want, I don't care how famous I don't care if you were fucking Frankie Lymon. I don't care. You're not coming in my house. You're not getting in my house. You're not

Kristen:

right.

D'Janai:

my house. for y'all don't no, no. Um, You're not getting in my fucking house, but she doesn't interview. She does a tour of the home where she lived with both Brittany and Simon, where they died. Of course. And she references the bed where Simon and Brittany used to sleep and she points to one side of the bench. She says, that's my side of the bed.

Kristen:

You're sleeping in their bed.

D'Janai:

Uh, hold on. She said, that's where Simon used to sleep. That's my side of the bed.

Kristen:

These motherfuckers were fucking,

D'Janai:

Oh, yeah.

Kristen:

they were getting it in.

D'Janai:

they were big fucking in that, fucking haunted house. Yes, they were. Um, also at Simon's funeral, she showed up in an armored car with security detail.

Kristen:

You're not the president of the United States bitch. Like

D'Janai:

You're the PR you're the president of fucking, uh,

Kristen:

Inc com clearly,

D'Janai:

I really got me. Good. I'm crying.

Kristen:

I'm distraught DNA because I've never deep dived into this case. And now I want to fight, you know, how I am, you know how I am, you know how I am. I get irrationally angry about things I can not control. I can't control this. I don't want to beat her ass.

D'Janai:

also after Simon died, she cut off all contact with his family, including his mother who, um, side note, they could be sisters. Like they look the same to me. Um, weird. she would not let. His mother had any of his things to remember him by or return any of her calls after he was buried, which was like suspicious Jonah. Like why

Kristen:

Yeah,

D'Janai:

she allowed her to, right? Yeah. It wasn't. So I'm just like, why, what the fuck? And she wouldn't let her, yeah, she wouldn't let her in the house. She wouldn't this one, she said, Oh, you can't come in Hollywood reporter bring y'all asses in, but you, his mother

Kristen:

Yeah. That's what does it make sense is the fact that you're letting. TMZ and ABC and CBS up in your home. And then his actual mom, you won't let him

D'Janai:

the porch. So that was weird. She was able to collect on both Simon and Brittany's life insurance policies. And so she had more than enough money. She was selling panties. She like, she had plenty of fucking money. Uh, she let Simon's graves sit without so much as that headstone rock, anything for years and years. Uh, ultimately, uh, his mother had to pay to have a headstone put on, but she just left him in an unmarked grave.

Kristen:

That's just pure evil. Right?

D'Janai:

I thought I was,

Kristen:

And are you broke bitch? Like that's just some evil ass. Shit to do

D'Janai:

and. Yup. so these are most of, if not all of the things that I'm just like, you know what, something fucking stinks. This is very fishy. Um, but. At this point, like people are still like, what the girl, what the fuck happened? Like this, this was real suspicious. Yona Mon Jack's family, as well as Brittany burpees fans and the public. They they're just like this isn't, this is not adding up. Uh, and they want answers. And so in the time after Brittany and Simon's death, the LA department of health, they examined the house. Before it was sold. They claimed that toxic mold could have caused their deaths or, you know, like was in the house rather. But at, at first Sharon's like, no, that's ridiculous. never mold, never heard of her. And then about a year and a half later, she was like, yeah, it was the mold. It wasn't me. It was them all.

Kristen:

she needs an alibi.

D'Janai:

right. Right. So she, she was just like, you know what? Yeah, it was the mole, but to me you have two people in their thirties and yes, they are like kind of sickly, but Sharon was in her seventies had had cancer neuropathy. So you're trying to tell me.

Kristen:

She escaped.

D'Janai:

the mold was just like, I'm going to bypass your old ass fucking lungs and go, right. So for the 30 year olds and kill them, if anybody was going to get the black lung pop, it was her bitch.

Kristen:

She would have been first in line. They would have been very, very excited to get up all in

D'Janai:

All them fucking scores, absolutely taken up her whole AOL leaves or whatever the fuck is. It is. It's not it's that sauce. I'm not a Dodger bitch. I'm a ride back. So anyways, um, Sharon Cook claims that, you know, the mold is what done it. Uh, which makes no sense to me, but the coroner came forward. They said, girl, shut the fuck up because mold did not contribute to the, at all. There might be some old in there and maybe you need to get some bleach, but it had nothing to do with why they died. Uh, but nonetheless, Sharon moneybag Murthy always buy her motherfucking coin. She still sues the builders of the home in 2011 and ended up settling in 2013 for$600,000. So again, more money. I mean, she, she just had like a masterclass at this point.

Kristen:

Yeah,

D'Janai:

a murder out of it, but

Kristen:

yeah,

D'Janai:

us how to scam. Uh, and so I know you forgot about this person a month later, who comes forward, Angelo Bertalotty

Kristen:

Her daddy,

D'Janai:

He comes forward and he wants to reopen the investigation into his daughter's death because he said, you know what, somebody ain't doing the math right. Uh, Angelo sues the LA coroner's office and the LAPD claiming that they failed to do a proper toxicology report and he wants his daughter's body to be zoomed. Of course, Sharon says no. but in January, 2012, she pushes for it. He requested the, the coroner provide him with samples of his daughter's hair for independent testing, and it takes a while, but in November, 2013, Angelo says that two independent labs confirm traces of poison and high concentrates of heavy metals. And Brittany's remains in her hair, including girl

Kristen:

But. In, in a, in a regular autopsy or toxicology report, they should be able to screen for rat poison. Right.

D'Janai:

I think so. And that's going to be Sharon's argument as to why this is, this is all fraudulent. She's going to say, that makes no sense. Like they would've seen it in her blood. They would have seen it in this. They would have seen it in that.

Kristen:

but also if you mix the right certain chemicals together, I'm sure. There's way you can go undetected.

D'Janai:

I mean, maybe So those podcasts and you're a chemist, let us know if there are any undetectable versions of rat poison that only show up in the hair, or maybe she just been poisoning her over like a long time and it was in the hair because it was, you know, like it wasn't present in the body,

Kristen:

Yeah, but does it make sense because what I'm going to let you finish? Cause I have some theories.

D'Janai:

Girl I'm just like, I don't know. But she did have, a rebuttal for that, but Angelo Bertalotty, he paused and said his daughter was murdered. He said, it's likely that she was poisoned by her mother. And in 2014, when asked from the press, like what he thought about what happened to his daughter and her husband, he said the following, he said, um, about Sharon. He says, let her explain why she had my daughter execute a, will leaving everything to her. And specifically excluding Simon, let Sharon explain why she decided to do this right after Brittany assignment told her of their plan to move to New York and have a baby. Let Sharon clarify how she was planning to support herself for the first time in decades. Once Brittany was to move away, let her talk about auctioning off Brittany's underwear, her passport, her sag card and her clothes. There are many unanswered questions that have to be addressed out of three people living together in the same house, only one survives and benefits financially. And I said,

Kristen:

okay. You know what, one thing about the mafia, mafia smell, baby. They might do a lot of things wrong, but if you wrong, you wrong and if you right you right.

D'Janai:

he's

Kristen:

Okay.

D'Janai:

the right questions. Finally, I might just ask him the right questions and I'm like, at this point, it's the, seems like common sense to me.

Kristen:

did she five in something and she saw them some coach clearly, uh, someone did cause he went along with the shit. And then when he wasn't useful, no fucking more,

D'Janai:

Both

Kristen:

too.

D'Janai:

like the yesterday's paper. So all the time, while of course, Shannon is calling bullshit on everything. He's saying, she's bringing up a, he's a criminal that he was never in Brittany's life. she's saying that the test results were fraudulent, you know, mentioning some of the things I mentioned before, and she's saying that he couldn't make money off of her in life. So he's trying to make money off of her in death. Um, you know, she said it was just all phooey and then she wrote it all in this open letter that she wrote in the Hollywood reporter y'all can look it up. They're going back and forth all the time. Angela was pushing his narrative for years until like 2001 thing was 2017. When he finally kind of shifted his narrative, because at first he was trying to say that it was her, then he kind of switched it and said that he thought something else happened. He still believed that she was murdered, but. Um, he believed that he believed that someone else, or maybe I should say something else, uh, murdered Brittany. So buckle up for theory, number three. Um, and I'm not going to spend too much time on this because I think this it's a little ludicrous, but, um, so this is where things get a little strange, uh, and more conspiracy theory like we're already there. So there's a woman named Julia Davis. You can look her up. And, um, I'm going to just say, like, this is all alleged. Uh, I don't have any, any type of proof, but apparently allegedly, Julia Davis was a department of Homeland security officer who had reported to her superior officers that she suspected an Al Qaeda attack, on, the United States, I believe, um, allegedly. Uh, they didn't do shit. They said, um, we don't care. So then when they didn't do anything, she reported them to the FBI. And her jobs that didn't, we say, shut the fuck up. So in turn, she, she says that the department of Homeland security retaliated against her. So there, she said that they raided her home. She was trying to come forward and say like, they're trying to cover something up or blah she's like, apparently some, some whistleblower and, um, trying to, get people to back her claims. And, uh, Brittany Murphy happened to be friends, allegedly having to be friends with a very public supporter of Julia Davis. Uh, and she claims that Brittany even served as a witness in some litigation attempt. Uh, the government. So. Davis goes on to make like an entire documentary girl by about this, which alleges that Murphy. And monjack because they were in support of Julia. They ended up on the da DHS, his shit list. And the government was trying to deport Mon Jack and quiet them too, and stuff like that. But it's just like, you know what, for all that they could have just killed you. What is Brittany. Right. I don't understand. Uh, but she was like, Oh, they tried to deport, uh, Simon and blah, blah, blah. and she's kind of partnered with, with, Angela. Bertalotty, like, they're kind of working together on this whole theory, but saying that Brittany and Simon both believed that they were being watched by the government and that their phones were plugs allegedly. We don't have any proof, uh, that they re you know, any, those, this holds any water there's any credence to this. I don't know if there's any truth to this at all. And I don't, you know, perhaps all those years in the pokey knocked a few screws loose. I have no idea, but that was the last So. until his dying day, while in pursuit of uncovering the misrep, his daughter's death, Angelo Briley died, uh, January 22nd, 2019, so recent. So it seems like any investigation and digging into this kind of like came to a standstill at that point. And so now Brittany's gone, Simon has gone, and Angela has gone. And, Sharon, you know, she's living in I'm, I'm going to assume lucrative obscurity for the rest of her days. And there's still this huge question, Mark. Like, it still remains a mystery to everybody. Nobody knows really what the fuck happened. And I know somebody knows something because like, People, it's not like Brittany lived in a fucking vacuum sheet. I know she didn't have that many friends, But somebody has got to say fucking something like it makes no sense, but in the end, Brittany Murphy's death remains a mystery. So, I want to say rest in peace to her. And I hope she actually is resting in peace because depending on what. Really went down in that house. She might not be because guess who was very next to her? Simon, Simon is buried next to her at forest lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. And if he had anything to do with her death, you already know that like she's first off, she's not resting easy. That shit is haunted, hella bad energy over there. anything to do with it, And also the house. I mean, the house was demolished, uh, since then, but a new house has been built in its place and recently sold for like 14 million. But that's yeah, I wanted to, that she just wanted to, so that is the story.

Kristen:

Hmm.

D'Janai:

Uh, your Brittany Murphy story. What are your thoughts? Feelings.

Kristen:

I have heard people talk about the dark sided, sorry. Dark sided, nature of Hollywood before and how. It is not a place where a whole lot of great things happen. We see the success stories. We see the people on the red carpet and it looks so glamorous, but it is a very dark sided industry. And looking at pictures of Sharon Murphy. Could have there, could there have been a little hint of jealousy from her beautiful, stunning, talented daughter? Absolutely. Just because you gave birth to her does not mean you are entitled to everything that she has. I firmly believe there was a conversation that was had where branding was probably saying bitch. Let me not say, bitch, ma'am you been living off of me for quite some time and it's time to make a clean break. You've been living in my home. I'm married now. I'm trying to establish a life for myself and you have to establish a life for yourself. And do I think Britney would have let her mom fall on her ass and be broke and homeless? Hell no, but I think the luxury she had been afforded from being so close to Brittany would have stopped or been halted apps, the fucking lutely. And at first glance, it looks as though Simon was involved in it too, which he very well could have been. But it's also very plausible that that guilt was starting to eat him alive. Or the other shoe was about to drop. And Sharon said, bitch, it's time for you to go to, if you're not going to carry out the plan and keep your mouth shut,

D'Janai:

Right. Yeah. Maybe he had come to his senses. He was sounding too virtuous. She said, you're going

Kristen:

Right. I. think she probably used the whole, I'm a single mother. I raised you. You owe me everything. I moved to California for you. I did X, Y, and Z. Your father's not here. You owe me. And it could very well be that Bernie was getting tired. She was 32 too. So. Did her mom have something to do with it? Abso-fucking-lutely Absolutely not. not.

D'Janai:

why am I in like

Kristen:

Right. Right. And who, who knows if having a baby would have? Well, it would have, but having a baby, Brittany would have probably taken a few years off from acting. So that's another stop in income.

D'Janai:

thinking, actually, you know what. To me. Cause I mean, how much is the baby cost? You know, whatever it was to me, it wasn't like the money so much, but her attention, because then it would be when it's time for her to shoot a movie, she's going to bring maybe her husband and her baby and Sharon gets like, you know, she doesn't get a chance to come to the red carpet. Also. I feel like I have never seen another celebrity with more pictures on the red carpet with their mom then

Kristen:

I just punched her up and they were together all the time. And who was cheesing and sign at the paparazzi. Sharon. It's not Brittany turning her head crawling and Sharon turning and smiling. So I think it was a mix of jealousy. And I'm not about to give up this lifestyle. And also medicating her daughters so much of the fact that I doubt Brittany even had a clue what she was doing in the last few months of her life.

D'Janai:

Absolutely. Absolutely. Okay. So I want to say, I have three words for you in terms of what I think, what the fuck happened, this. Some gypsy Rose shit. Okay. Because this, this theme of sickness is just, it's just coming through this whole fucking story. Everybody's fucking sick in this house, which I'm just like, no way y'all have more than enough money to see like, get some doctors. Why, why is everybody so sick? So Sharon of course, you know, Sharon sick at first, she's got breast cancer. She's got neuropathy, which I'm going to look up. Can you fake that shit? Not to be rude if you have it, but I'm looking it up. there's that then all of a sudden Brittany's, you know, she's always very sick. She's sickly. Oh, she can't go out because she has a heart murmur and she, Oh, she's not doing drugs. She's she's got a heart murmur, but bitch who don't have a heart murmur, I have a heart murmur. Hey, stop me from doing a goddamn thing. Where's the one for me to knock on a heart murmur. Ain't stopping nothing from happening. So. I think that we have seen this before. let's do an examination on Sharon. She from the beginning, from the very beginning, she is attracted to what? The power, the influence of Angelo Bertalotty that's, that's what got her into him in the first place and had a baby by him. She said, fuck this. Okay. Well, you know what, if it's not going to be Angelo, maybe we'll make this one as a song. so Brittany has an air for, show business and stuff like that. And she's like, Oh great. This is, this is going to be my end. Make plenty of money off of this child to the point, sending your child to Hollywood with a fucking chaperone, selling all your shit and moving to LA within two months of your daughter getting Hollywood, like this is, you know, this is, this is different. Um, I feel like she, was pulling the strings for a long time and I think at a certain point, maybe Brittany was like, I need to do some of this stuff on my own. And she's like, okay, I can't control you anymore. Like the way, the same way I have been. so I'm going to find a simpleton. To control how to find somebody that I can mold and I can control. I'll pull your strings, he'll pull your strings. At the end

Kristen:

right.

D'Janai:

fucking strings. He's your husband, he's your manager. He's going to be the one to cause it's going to be weird if you're 32 years old and you're still shuttling me around, it's going to look strange. You're kind of out of it. What, you know, whatever, like I've done. My Googles people are going to get suspicious, but your husband, they're not going to say shit. That's because they're not gonna say shit to a man, but what he's doing with his wife, So she did the ship very strategic

Kristen:

Right.

D'Janai:

and she did it. She fully, fully did. And he assignment, I fully believe he had something to do with it because to me, anybody in their right mind, and like, why are you sleeping in the bed with her? And also you got to hear him talk girl, you have to, like the way he was talking, he was just not on this earth. He's not present with us. So it would have been easy to manipulate, someone like him, I think. And he, he clearly has, um, some kind of con man, he he's honestly, he's the British version of Dr. Love. Like he's he's on some shit.

Kristen:

100% and he was broke. Because Once they got together, he was sitting on front row of fashion shows. He was on red carpets. He was hugging her up. Like he was able to change his whole life and live a completely different life than the broke ass life. That was his reality with Brittany. So it was a win-win for all parties involved until Simon was no more use for her mom. So get rid of him too. You got away with it once and no one really dug deep.

D'Janai:

I don't understand why no one is like, this is so painfully obvious, like literally painfully obvious that this woman has something to do with bodies. That, but, um, I mean, like allegedly, because please don't come to my house. I'm scared of this bitch. she got friends in high places,

Kristen:

Because she made it by it since like her, since our ex sign real quiet. It was quiet before then. So somewhere.

D'Janai:

come find me, bitch. I swear to God, uh, this is, yeah, right. We ain't got no money and, um, I I'm better off alive. It seemed like everybody, everybody involved was really cuckoo for cocoa puffs. It sounds like, she made sure that she was isolated with very few fins. She was controlling her husband who was then controlling her. Everybody was a complete nutcase. It was just, this is her. Her puppet show. And she was pulling the strings the whole fucking time. And I want her, I want her FLATE bitch. Like I want her damn jail. I want her in the stalks,

Kristen:

Yes.

D'Janai:

center. I want to throw tomatoes at her stupid

Kristen:

Yes. I also find it weird that this was a young, beautiful top of the game actress who was engaged twice and they never came into fruition, which is another red flag for me, in the sense of was her mom pulling the strings so much that the men that she was engaged to were like, it's not even worth. Going through all that, if she's going to be a part of the package deal, cause I'm not signing up to marry you and your mom signing up to marry you. So who knows if she had a hand in the pot of desolving the relationships she had established to make sure that this one actually came into fruition.

D'Janai:

I think so. I definitely think so. I know Ashton Kutcher knows something

Kristen:

He has to, because I remember him commenting about her death and he was pretty tore up.

D'Janai:

It's sad. It's it's really fucking sad. I fully believe that somebody knows something. Some that woman was drugging her for years, man. Like she was controlling her the whole time putting, probably putting Draino in her cereal, like all types of crazy shit. I would not be surprised because why would she be so, Oh, she can't, she can't do drugs and she can't go out and she can't do this because she's so sick. I want her to come clean, please. I'm clean, admit what you did and go to jail. Like you need like, let there be some justice for this. If you want to look into this yourself, I highly recommend that Larry King live interview. Definitely read the transcript, watched the video on archive.org. Like it's so fucking spooky. Watch that also, I guess I can recommend, uh, Alex Ben blocks open letter, uh, in the Hollywood reporter. I can't, some people say he's a friend. Some people say he's like not, I do not know. There's a lot of flowery language that really pissed me the fuck off. But if you want some more context, there's that? Um, yeah. Look into it. Also I want to say while I was doing research for this, um, I was feeling like weird. Like I was getting scared. I told you I was having nightmares and shit. I was like, fuck beds. I was just struggling. to get up. Um, but yeah, here I am with a plate full of chicken bones, and I say, let's ask the audience, what do y'all think happened?

Kristen:

right, because, this is not uncommon for this business, this is also not an uncommon theme in Hollywood for these overbearing crazy ass parents. Who. So badly insert themselves in their children's career. And we've seen the train wrecks time and time and time again.

D'Janai:

Yeah.

Kristen:

Hmm. Hmm. DS, you did it this week. It did it.

D'Janai:

Thank you.

Kristen:

pop and Desi whined all up in this story, because I never knew the ins and outs because we only got the surface of just like

D'Janai:

And just people just left it at that. Also part of the conspiracy theory. I do not. I think that it takes a village to hide a murder or to murder. It's not shared, it's not working alone. I think that she maybe paid some people off. She did whatever she did, because just like this don't make no fucking sense. Why is the bed chief and the, the. Coroner's office like everybody's taken months and months to find out answers and like, it, it don't make no type of sense. And the fact that you're the last one standing. You're the last one here. You're not Antwan Fisher bitch. You should've died. There was mold in the house. If everybody was catching pneumonia, can you guys, is that shit? Uh, can you catch that from somebody

Kristen:

I'm pretty sure

D'Janai:

contagious.

Kristen:

viral

D'Janai:

president is contagious. Oh fuck. No hell no. Hell no. She would have been got it. So what, why and why isn't anybody looking into this? Why is anybody to be in this case? I want

Kristen:

Right

D'Janai:

Murphy. I don't know about Simon. He seems a little shady, so

Kristen:

He seems like he went along with it and then he just had to go,

D'Janai:

he's like, uh, mommy, girlfriend, can I have some money? She said, no, go to hell, drink somebody who's rat, poison a smoothie.

Kristen:

right. And who knows if he was gonna take her? So court to try to get a share of that estate. Oh, you know, she

D'Janai:

he was, he scammed a scammer cause he'd been scamming. They would, they were con they were con artists together. But, yeah, that's the story. Um, we both want to hear what y'all have to say about, what you think really happened. There's a lot of different theories. Um, either put it in the comments on Instagram or, adults on Twitter and,

Kristen:

Oh, rest in

D'Janai:

right? Yes, rest in peace to Brittany Murphy. Um, I will watch clueless and tribute next weekend on Kristen's birthday party. She's at Aquarius for real y'all

Kristen:

In the thick of it. Like I'm a, I'm a true blue through and through Aquarius too. And not on some like early January or late February shit like Mitch, I do this.

D'Janai:

in the middle. It does definitely does. All right. Um, so that was heavy. Do you have a, so high this week?

Kristen:

Oh, this is my high note. I, uh, uh, had designed today, uh, order me a mug and it came and it's so fucking que and I'm going to drink out of it tomorrow.

D'Janai:

Oh, my God, it shows the liquids.

Kristen:

qTest

D'Janai:

just fine. I had coffee in it last night. I was

Kristen:

you did. Like, actually it's so cute. So. Yeah, I know. Is this mug and, uh, through fruition of this podcast. Cause I don't know if either of us believe that we would be at this point,

D'Janai:

right. I was

Kristen:

I mean,

D'Janai:

uh, without,

Kristen:

I mean, you sort of have sponsors, um, because everyone's fake. Um, but

D'Janai:

Well, we don't have officials possibly. I do want to say, I don't know if y'all noticed, but I probably sound a little bit better. This episode, probably less noise, because shout out to my home girl Rennie, she said, bitch, it sounds like you recording on a Nintendo DS. Let me help you out. She sent me. She sent me a gift card to buy a new, um, microphone. And I fucking love it. It's made a huge difference, I think, in the quality of the pod. Yes. So we don't have official sponsor. We do have really, really amazing and great friends and supporters and we love y'all. Um, yeah, my, my so high this week is honestly, I got a big, big ups to myself. I have been learning and applying shit from therapy. Actually, I got like the equivalent of a gold star from my black lady therapist last week for being a mindful home. Yes. Um, I also started journaling, which I really didn't want to do cause I don't want to be corny like y'all but, um, I, I see the benefit of journaling. I thought it was just for like woo, weird bitches, but I was, I was ignorant. I was lost and I would found insight. I feel like I journal in the morning and I journal at night and I feel like it gives me I'm, like I said, I was going to do this. I affirmed this this morning. I'm going to keep that in mind as I go throughout my day. So waking up earlier, just taking a few minutes to kind of like gather my thoughts and my intention for the day and, say what I'm grateful for first thing in the morning. And it's good to start your day spirit of gratitude. So. It's been cool. Um, all right. Y'all that was episode 12. Thanks for listening. Thanks for listening as always, uh, follow us on Instagram at quiet as it's kept podcast, spell it all out.

Kristen:

And like comment, subscribe

D'Janai:

Uh, on Twitter, we are quiet. Wait,

Kristen:

Quake Q a I K the

D'Janai:

Yes, Q a I K the pod on Twitter. Um, then we'll see you guys next week. Bye.

Kristen:

Love you. Bye. Uh, why can't even say your mom should've swallowed because it's

D'Janai:

Well, Mom should have been normal is what be fucking normal. Just be somebody's mom. You've been so fucking uncle Sharon. But also don't come find us.

Kristen:

please. Don't We have nothing to offer you love y'all mean it.

D'Janai:

Bye
